How to make macaroni with broccoli and cheese step by step

  1. Preparation of broccoli: We begin by washing the broccoli and separating the florets. Then, we boil it in a pot with enough water and salt for approximately 10 minutes. When it is cooked but still firm, we remove it from the water and let it drain.
  2. Cook the macaroni: In the same water that we cooked the broccoli, add the macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente. Then, we drain them and reserve a little of the cooking water for later.
  3. Preparation of the garlic: While the macaroni is on the heat, chop the garlic clove very finely.
  4. Sauteing: In a large frying pan, add a splash of olive oil and when it is hot, add the chopped garlic and chillies if you decided to use them. Sauté over medium-low heat until the garlic begins to brown.
  5. Combine ingredients: Once the garlic is golden, add the broccoli to the pan and sauté everything together for a few minutes. Then, we add the macaroni and mix well so that all the flavors are integrated. If you see that the mixture is very dry, you can add a little of the cooking water that we had reserved.
  6. Final touches: Finally, season with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. We remove everything so that the cheese melts and we serve hot.

Tips and tricks for cooking macaroni with broccoli

If you prefer that the broccoli is softer , you can add it to the macaroni a little earlier, so that it cooks a little more with the heat of the pasta.

If you like give it an extra touch of flavor , you can add a little butter along with the olive oil when you are sautéing the garlic.
