original homemade Mexican guacamole

Easy Guacamole Dip Recipe

Today's dish is one of my favorite sauces from Mexico. The guacamole. This Mexican sauce is made up mostly of avocado and other vegetables such as tomato, onion or peppers. The typical spicy touch of this region of Central America is also added using some type of chili.

Today we can find this dish in cities around the world. In Mexico we can find two types of guacamole: the one that is completely crushed without any piece of avocado, popularly known as aguamole. On the other hand, we have the most popular guacamole sauce which contains pieces of the vegetables used to prepare said recipe.

Curiously, the first time I tried this sauce of Mexican origin was not in Mexico but in a country further south, Costa Rica. I was hungry after a long excursion on one of the volcanoes in the center of the country and I entered a Mexican restaurant.

It was there that I fell in love with guacamole dip. I ate it with nachos with cheese. I don't know if it was because I was hungry or because it was really delicious, but I couldn't stop eating that exquisite dish.

When I returned from Costa Rica I prepared homemade guacamole and to my surprise it was extremely easy to cook. From that moment on, whenever I have visitors I prepare a plate of nachos with guacamole for the guests.

The original recipe is quite spicy. However, if we do not tolerate spicy foods well, we can prepare it without it, softening the sauce.

How to prepare easy guacamole

  1. Peel the avocados, cut horizontally and move one of the halves. We will see how said half separates from the other. We remove the stone from the avocado and remove the pulp from the fruit with a spoon, putting it in a plastic or wooden container to crush. We reserve.
  2. We wash the tomatoes, peel them and cut them into small pieces. We save.
  3. Peel and chop the onion finely. If we decide to add green pepper to our Mexican guacamole recipe, we open it, wash it with plenty of water, remove the seeds inside and cut it into small pieces.
  4. With the help of a fork, preferably wooden or plastic, we begin to mash the avocado. If they were ripe, this procedure will be much easier.
  5. We cut the lime into 2 halves and with the help of a fork we squeeze the juice inside over the avocado sauce.
  6. We add the tomato, onion or chives and green pepper and continue mashing the mixture with the fork.
  7. We add the coriander leaves, a splash of olive oil and a little salt. We continue mixing.
  8. Then we let the guacamole rest for 30-40 minutes in the fridge or refrigerator.
  9. Finally we serve the guacamole with tortilla chips or corn triangles. Additionally, we can add a touch of spiciness with serrano chili or jalapeño chili to give it the most authentic flavor of Mexico.

Tips to make the best original guacamole

If when you finish eating the guacamole there is a little left over then it is advisable to put one of the avocado pits into the sauce to prevent oxidation. It is important to cover the container where the guacamole is with plastic wrap to prevent, as much as possible, the entry of air.

We recommend using lime instead of lemon to delay the oxidation of the avocado components. The lime gives it a more original flavor, more typical of the Caribbean area.

This sauce is usually accompanied with nachos or corn tortilla chips. A highly recommended dish is the nachos with meat, cheese and guacamole. It's delicious!

If you have time, it is important to let the dish rest in the refrigerator for 40-60 minutes to allow the flavors to mix effectively.

A good guacamole requires a few good fresh coriander leaves. Using dried cilantro leaves will lower the quality of the Mexican sauce.

I started cosmorecipes in 2020 during the time we were cooped up at home. Having so much free time I spent a lot of time in the kitchen trying different dishes. So I decided to mix cooking with my other great passion: web programming. That's why I decided to open this blog where I post the different recipes that I'm cooking.
